The Creative Thinking Process
Blocks to Green Light Thinking

Before ever getting to the point of the creative thinking process you or your team must focus in on the real problem. One way of doing that is to ask the question, "What is the one thing that if changed/added would make the most difference?"

For instance in direct sales there is a direct connection between the number of contacts to the number of sales. Of course if the contact is a disaster it will never convert to a sale. However, your creative thinking process could focus on the contact itself.

In another example if you are a retail store and sales are down you may create a customer survey to find out what they are thinking. Once you have that information you would focus on one issue at a timed.

Green Light Thinking is one of the keys to the Creative Thinking and removing any obstacles that will block it is important.

Here is just a short list of things that can block Green Light Thinking:

Breaking bad habits such as saying we have always done it that way in the past.

Not allowing anyone to make negative comments during the Green Light Thinking Process. No idea is wrong.

Don’t try to conform to previous ideas and ways of doing business. Blaze out a new trail of your own! Lack of Confidence in yourself to come up with new ideas and ways of doing business!

Giving up too soon is one of the biggest problems that people have in the creative thinking process. Don’t quit.

Don’t look to senior leadership for answers. Create your own first.

Good Luck and May God Bless You!

To overcome any blocks to Green Light Thinking, you must develop an attitude conductive to creativity.

So what does this look like?

Be open minded to new ideas and the ideas of other co-workers.

Have an inquiring mind and the desire to find new ideas.

Never settle or be satisfied and believe that everything can be improved upon.

Do not be overly concerned with the opinions of others that are negative. There are a lot of nays Sayers out there.

Always appreciate the importance of creative thinking.

Go past personal habits and attitudes which can put you in a rut if you let them.

Don’t consider critical, analytical, judicial thinking while working creatively.

Make sure you don’t end the green light thinking session too quickly. A long list of ideas must be formulated prior to the selection process, so that you will select the best possible solution.

Use this brainstorming process as a management tool and include as many as possible in the process.

Good Luck and May God Bless You!
