What is Management Training?
What is Management Training and why do we need it?
Management training can encompass many topics, but generally it includes the management of time, people, and resources.
My daughter who is in middle school volunteered to be the equipment manager for her schools football team. After the first day I asked her what the equipment manager did.
I had to laugh when she said I drag all the equipment out, and when they are done I drag it all back in!
I asked was there anything else. She said yes - when they scream out my name to go get something, I have to go get it!
I said Wow, would you like to manage our bathroom and kitchen at home! She laughed and said no thank you!
What is Management Training? We throw the term manage, manager, or management around...
We throw the term manage, manager, or management around so easily we forget what it really entails.
A good manager will make the best use of time, people and resources.
How you go about making the best use of these is where Management Training comes into play.
As an example, would be receiving training in time management. How do we make the best use of time? There are many types of time management training programs available, but what type is best suited for you?
Time management training may include learning how to schedule your time better. Learning how to prioritize your time as it relates to what activities in your day can be eliminated and which ones can not. Maybe it is focusing on specific tasks and determining if any steps can be combined or eliminated. Maybe it is setting daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annual goals to keep you focused appropriately on what really matters.
What is Management Training? Communicate more effectively so that there are no misunderstandings...
When it comes to people management you may need help with motivational techniques. Maybe you need to learn how to communicate more effectively so that there are no misunderstandings as to what you expect from them. Maybe you need to better understand how to build teams that can work together. Maybe you are in need of training on how to carry out a performance improvement plan, or issue discipline for poor behavior. The list could go on and on.
As it relates to training in the management of resources, maybe you are in need of help in inventory techniques. Maybe you want to learn more about various types of preventative maintenance programs. Or maybe it's looking into newer more productive equipment. May be it's studying about more effective ways to utilize your utilities or different types of alternative utilities.
So again we ask, "What is Management Training?"
We hopefully know now it is to learn how to make the best use of time, people and resources.
This should be a never ending process. When you think you know it all, it is time to get a different job because you have obviously lost touch with your current one.
Management is an ever evolving process and for those that take it seriously they will continually be seeking ways to improve through training.
