Sexual Harassment Article
The business trip

I have presented a sexual harassment article to help you better understand the definition of sexual harassment.

The fact is that many times organizations have trouble understanding what constitutes sexual harassment.

In an effort to help I hope that these examples will give you a better grip on it. Although these examples are very close to actual cases - they are not and only examples.

You be the judge of the following example. Is it sexual harassment, sex discrimination, or neither?

Sexual Harassment Article - The supervisor told the general manager that the company was making every effort to reduce expenses on training events and this would require that they share a room together.

A male employee accepted a position as general manager for a national super market chain. He had 18 years experience in other similar positions. He was excited about the new position. His supervisor was a female who worked out of the regional office.

During the interview for the position the supervisor had explained to the general manager that he would be required to attend training at locations out of town requiring over night stays. The general manager stated this would not be a problem.

Shortly after starting the new position the supervisor called and told the general manager that he would have to attend leadership management training. This would be a week long training event that was being conducted half way across the country.

Sexual Harassment Article - Although the general manager was not thrilled with this set up, he reluctantly agreed to go.

The supervisor told the general manager that the company was making every effort to reduce expenses on training events and this would require that they share a room together.

Although the general manager was not thrilled with this set up, he reluctantly agreed to go. At the event the supervisor exited the restroom on several occasions without clothing and got dressed by her bed. This was all in front of the general manager.

The general manager explained that he was very uncomfortable with this arrangement and if possible could he get a different room at his expense.

The supervisor explained that he should take his job more serious and get over himself. She went onto say that they were both adults and he should grow up if he wanted to do well with this company.

Would anything change if the female supervisor was a male and was openly a gay?

Good Luck and May God Bless You!
