Need a Parent Management Training Program that Works even for ADHD and Bipolar Disorder?

If your child has Bipolar Disorder then you need some help just to survive day to day!

I know, because I have survived twenty-ones years with a child that has a number of mental illnesses, including living with ADHD and Bipolar Disorder.

My son was diagnosed very early in the second grade with ADHD. I must admit I thought the doctors were crazy when they told us this. I thought to myself that sure he is a little hyper, but come on, ADHD!

He was extremely bright and all the school testing proved that out to be true. Our adopted son who was born addicted to cocaine, meth and alcohol was testing out as a very intelligent young boy.

My thoughts were that he was so smart that he was just bored in school. He could score a 100% on a test without studying, which drove the teachers and us, crazy.

It wasn’t until the middle of 6th and 7th grade that we knew something else was going on in his head.

He was so very defiant that we couldn’t even get him up for school. I would drag his mattress off onto the floor. I would turn it over! I would spray water on him! I would turn the music up extremely loud! I would yell and scream! I would threaten!

You name it! I did it!

I know it doesn’t sound very mature and it wasn’t.

The fact was I didn’t know what to do!

I didn’t know where to turn!

I had no answers and wasn’t getting any from anyone!

Oh yes we got advice, just no answers!

The advice generally drove me absolutely nuts. They just didn’t get it! We had a child that had something going on and we didn’t know how to handle him!

He did many other things like bang his head, pace back and forth, ask the same questions over and over and over again, get very angry to very happy relatively quickly, depressed, argumentative, etc.

He was finally diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder.

The medication helped but it still didn’t solve our problems.
