Good Interview Questions

What are some Good Interview Questions? Let me tell you over the years I have been involved in too many Job Interviews to even count. During that time I have targeted in on some very Good Interview Questions, or at least I think so. After all a Job Interview Question is asked to try and find out if a candidate is the right fit for your organization. Although the skills level of an individual is important I feel the integrity of the individual is even more important. In most cases I can teach someone the technical aspects of most positions if they already are average or better. What I can't teach is ethics and morals.

So what I consider Good Questions are something that will allow an individual to demonstrate their real character. The character that they display in their everyday life! This can be a very difficult task since most candidates are attempting to answer the question in a way that will put them in the best light. Therefore, it is tough to get them to open up to how they really are going to be after they land the job!

So how do we get down to the real person behind the curtain that candidates hide behind, just like the Wizard in the Wizard of Oz! Ethical questions are tough! Again, the candidate is going to answer in a way that is traditional even if they feel differently. One way is to ask them about previous employee relationships. How about a question like, "Tell me about a time your previous employer really upset you?" Other Good Interview Questions to discover their personality would be, "Tell me about a time you had to work with someone you didn't like, and why you didn't like them?"

These types of Good Interview Questions should help you understand what kinds of major or petty things make them upset. If they start putting down their previous employer I don't need to hear anything else about them. If they explain a situation about something without putting them down I am alright with. But I do not ever want to have someone working for us that will put down a previous employer for any reason. The old saying, "What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas", applies to your workplace also as it relates to other employers! If they bad mouth them, they will bad mouth you!

When they answer the question about working with someone they didn't like, again listen closely. These type of Good Interview Questions should help expose how they fell about other coworkers. Of course no matter what the situation they explain it will always have them in the best light. That means you may have to do some follow up questions. Another trick may be to come back later to that same question to do a follow up. If the story they told was not true they may have trouble remembering the facts that they told you earlier. This may be a bit of trickery but very effective!
