Introducing Trust Into Your Executive Leadership Training!
I have found that the most important part of any executive leadership training program is the opportunity to bring your team together and create an environment that breeds trust. When you bring any team together into ~ learning environment, whether they are executives or not, there will be a bonding process provided the training is spread out over time. Taping into this will pay your organization back exponentially. Of course any executive leadership training program must push the participants into areas that give them a certain amount of uneasiness! Provided your executive team is made up of somewhat equals, pushing them to their limits will help them to develop a bond that is hard to break. Those comfort zones will be different for every team, and actually for each participant. This will be the challenge for the facilitator! There is no question that fear can motivate people to do all kinds of things that they didn't think they were capable of doing. Many Hero's are born out of reacting to some type of fearful situation. They end up accomplishing amazing feats, and when asked how they did it. There answer is simple. They just reacted to the situation that was placed in front of them. Those involved in that situation have a bond that will last for life. Just ask any of the people that were involved in the plane that landed just recently in the Hudson River in New York. So the Facilitator's focus in any executive leadership training program should be to incorporate some element of fear to bring them together. Everyone is fearful of something, and making someone face that fear is an experience that could help bring your team very close together. Your organization may be in the middle of an extreme budget crisis and members of your executive team may be in jeopardy of their very jobs. You may have someone in fear of flying, or snakes. Push them to their limits with the help of their team mates it will create a bond that will not be broken. The difference in a team that has an unbreakable bond and without question trusts each other will] move your organization forward on the fast track. No more competition about who does what. The new focus will be on the team and not on themselves. There will be no more personality barriers to deal with. This will carry over into every aspect of your organization and it will begin to be infectious. Trust must be a part of your executive leadership training program. Without making it a part of it, you are wasting your time. I am not advocating that you not introduce other pieces into the training; however, an executive team that trusts each other will accomplish so much more. Don't give them another one of those lame programs that come and go. Take time to build your team the right way and everything else will fall into place. May God Bless You!
