Having Bi Polar Disorder is no joke and is definitely not some made up mental illness by mental health professionals.
Prior to our son coming to us at four months old having just recovered from cocaine addiction withdrawals, I would have told you that Bi Polar was a mental illness.
I would have told you that it was people who were not disciplined enough to control their behavior. I probably would have not even felt a bit sorry for you if you told me that you had it or had a child with it. I would have been thinking that you just needed to suck it up and tough it out! In other words just grow up!
Twenty-one years later I can absolutely confirm that bi polar disorder is a real legitimate mental illness.
Not only that, but our family has been to hell and back because of it.

For my son who was born addicted to cocaine, meth and alcohol, he will never be the same again. That means never!
His mother and father were addicted to at least those three things if not more when she conceived and throughout her pregnancy. At birth he was removed from her care and spent the next three months going through what any other person would go through withdrawing from cocaine and meth.
The difference was this was his first experience to life outside the womb.
Unfortunately he is still dealing with the problems his mother and father left him with.
People say that drugs are a personal choice! Maybe they should ask my son about that!
He has been deemed totally disabled by the social security administration, and sadly he is only twenty-one years old.
He also has schizophrenia and ADHD. He started showing the symptoms of ADHD at a very early age and was committed to a mental health facility for six weeks at the age of twenty.
Provided he takes his medicine he can focus for short periods of times.
Sometimes life is just unfair, but you still have to play with the cards you were dealt.
We love God and know that no matter what, good can come from his bi polar disorder, even if it does not appear very clearly to us now.
Speaking as someone that spent twelve years in the Marine Corps, it was a piece of cake compared to my son having bi polar disorder, ADHD and Schizophrenia.
